Does this sound like you?

You’re frazzled, overwhelmed, unable to get caught up with anything, and plagued by random emotional eruptions of anger, sadness, anxiety, frustration, or even numbness.

You used to feel so successful and so excited at work and in your relationships, but now, it feels harder than ever to get motivated to take on the world like you used to.

Heck, sometimes it’s hard to just get out of bed.

There’s this constant pressure to always be doing more, more, more, and if you don’t keep up with it all, you feel like a failure, talk crappy to yourself, and guilt trip yourself like it’s your job.

This is where many of my therapy clients begin, but it’s not where they end up. My clients often come to therapy feeling completely stuck and unsure how to move forward in their lives as they struggle with overwhelming workplace burnout, stressful poly relationship dynamics, or trying to overcome the constant hum of difficult life situations and past traumas.

If this sounds like you, therapy in Fort Wayne can help.

Hi, I’m Megan Kelly, a Fort Wayne counselor.

I work with adults who are struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, workplace stress, or challenges in their polyamorous relationships. I am intimately familiar with the challenges of burnt out and difficult relationship dynamics, and it’s my mission to help people like you overcome these issues, so you can live an burnout-free, emotionally fulfilling and mentally stimulating life.

As an EMDR therapist, a poly friendly therapist, and a burnout therapist, I am no stranger to working through the challenges of being burnt out, stressed out, anxious as heck, and unsure how to move forward with my work and my relationships. I know how tiring it can be to try to hold it all together, only to feel like everything might come crashing down at a moments’ notice. I know the struggle, and the struggle is real.

That’s what I’m here for: to support you as you work your way out of the struggle and into a life that actually feels good. My main goal as a therapist in Fort Wayne is to pretty much work myself out of a job—meaning, I want to be so helpful to you in your journey that eventually, you won’t need therapy at this stage of your life anymore.

We’ll work together to help you learn powerful coping strategies for your daily life, while processing through the deeper issues that cause your burnout and stress—such as trauma, poor boundary-setting, people-pleasing, and more—so that eventually, you won’t need therapy anymore.

If you’re ready to get started, contact me below for a free, no-obligation consultation. We’ll get to know each other and see if we’re a good fit for EMDR therapy, burnout therapy, or poly friendly therapy in Fort Wayne.

My approach to therapy

I’ve walked the roads of burnout, anxiety, depression, and super stressful relationship problems. I also understand on a deep level how difficult it can be to show up and talk about what’s really going on in your life, especially with a stranger. Sometimes it just feels easier to put on a mask, rather than letting your guard down.

Dealing with the constant pressure of being the “best” employee or the “perfect” partner and friend makes it hard to just be yourself. However, it’s my job (and my mission) to show up for you as best as I can, listen as deeply as I’m able, get to know you for who you really are on the inside, and validate your experiences in life, all while providing you with the tools and guidance you need to take that next best step toward healing.

But we both know that keeping the walls up gets us nowhere, fast.

During our sessions, I try as hard as I can to create a space that is comfortable, non-clinical, and full of ease, while also providing a space to gently challenge you and encourage you to expand your growth edges.

I do my best work with folks who are ready to dive right in, try something new, and “get their hands dirty,” so to speak—even when it feels edgy, difficult, or scary. My clients know and understand that sustainable changes take time, and that sometimes, we need to repeatedly do the “unsexy” but vitally important maintenance work between therapy sessions to keep our progress moving “up and to the right.”

With that being said, I am also a highly trained trauma professional, and I know that many people have been through difficult, traumatizing, or stressful things make it even more difficult to show up as their true selves. This is why I practice trauma-informed care, such as EMDR therapy. I have been trained to be especially aware of how trauma shows up in the mind and the body, and I take very seriously your emotional and physical safety throughout the process of therapy.

  • Right now, no. I am a 100% online therapist and see therapy clients across the state of Indiana, including in Bloomington, Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Valparaiso. I use Simple Practice for my virtual therapy sessions, which can be used on iOS and Android devices, as well as laptop computers, tablets, and desktop computers. All you need is a good internet connection, an a device with a working camera and microphone.

  • Every therapy session is approximately 45-50 minutes long, and I typically see people weekly or every-other-week.

On average, clients who come to work with me for EMDR therapy, burnout therapy, or poly-friendly therapy are in therapy for 6 months to a year.

Some people choose to end therapy sooner, and some stay longer, up to 2-3 years.

The amount of time you’re in therapy will depend heavily on your therapy goals, the severity of your issues or concerns, your finances, how much time you have for therapy each week, and how much work you do between sessions to apply your new skills to your day-to-day life.

  • EMDR is a type of trauma therapy that helps your brain heal from traumatic experiences, whether they happened last week, last year, or last decade. While EMDR doesn’t “make the memory disappear,” it can help you feel more calm and safe in your day to day life, even when you think about—or are reminded of—traumatic, stressful, or overwhelming things you’ve been through.

EMDR is not hypnosis, and doesn’t bring up “false memories.” EMDR has about 30 years of research behind it and is a well-established form of therapy that can help people from all walks of life rediscover a sense of safety, calm, and ease in their bodies and their minds.

EMDR involves several “stages” and “pahses” and when we work together, we’ll spend a good amount of time in what we call “resourcing.” EMDR resourcing is basically like building up a toolbox full of EMDR-specific coping skills that you can use when you’re overwhelmed by painful emotions and physical sensations. Once you feel ready to confront your painful memories, we’ll go into “reprocessing,” which is what most people think of when they think of EMDR.

And, to answer the question about online EMDR therapy—YES! EMDR can be done virtually. There are modifications we’ll use to make EMDR work online. These modifications have been shown to be as effective as in-person EMDR.

  • One of my specialties as a therapist in Fort Wayne is working with adults who are burnt out. Burn out is often viewed as a type of workplace-induced depression, but it can also show up in care-giving roles, in undergrad or graduate students, in activism roles, and just life in general. I most frequently work with burnt out mental health professionals, doctors, nurses, college students, and teachers.

In burnout counselling, we’ll talk about all of the things that factor into your burnout—that is, all of the things you can control, as well as some of the things you can’t—and we’ll talk about ways to take back your time, energy, and happiness.

This means looking at making changes you can make in your life, whether they’re big or small, including learning new coping skills, understanding how to set and maintain boundaries, or maybe even processing trauma responses that lead to burnout through EMDR therapy.

Ultimately, my goal is to help you get back to a place of feeling more motivated, in control, and empowered in your life. Burnout therapy is a great way to help you regain your happiness and put the power back in your hands to lead a more fulfilling, easeful life.
